چکیده

In this investigation, we have measured the invasion and growth of the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum into elliptocytic red blood cells (RBCs) obtained from subjects with homozygous hereditary elliptocytosis. These elliptocytic RBCs have been previously characterized to possess molecular defects in protein 4.1 and glycophorin C. Our results show that the invasion of Plasmodium falciparum into these protein 4.1 (-1 RBCs is significantly reduced. Glycophorin C (-1 Leach RBCs were similarly resistant to parasite invasion in vitro. The intracellular development of parasites that

The heterozygous form of 4.1(-) hereditary elliptocytosis [the 4.1(-) trait].

Using clinical, morphological, genetic, and biochemical criteria, we studied ten white and North African families with hereditary elliptocytosis (HE). In four families, elliptocytic individuals displayed a highly significant reduction of band 4.1, which was recorded using two electrophoretic procedures. The 4.1a/4.1b ratio was also significantly reduced, as is usually observed in suspensions en...

The role of SH3GL3 in myeloma cell migration/invasion, stemness and chemo-resistance

Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable cancer characterized by clonal expansion of malignant plasma cells in the bone marrow and their egress into peripheral blood. The mechanisms of myeloma cells migration/invasion have remained unclear. Herein, we found SH3GL3 was highly expressed in the CD138-negative (CD138-) myeloma cells. The migration/invasion capability of CD138- cells was significantly ...

Focal adhesion kinase regulates smooth muscle cell recruitment to the developing vasculature.

OBJECTIVE The investment of newly formed endothelial cell tubes with differentiated smooth muscle cells (SMC) is critical for appropriate vessel formation, but the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. We previously showed that depletion of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) in the nkx2.5 expression domain led to aberrant outflow tract (OFT) morphogenesis and strove herein to determine the cell types ...

Focal adhesion kinases crucially regulate TGFβ-induced migration and invasion of bladder cancer cells via Src kinase and E-cadherin

Focal adhesion kinase (FAK) is a non-receptor protein-tyrosine kinase that is triggered off by special extracellular signals such as some growth factors and integrins. FAK is found in cell-matrix attachment sites and implicated in cell migration, invasion, movement, gene expression, survival and apoptosis. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether FAK plays a role in invasion and migration...
